I completely meant to mention Uwajimaya - Carrie just went there.

Especially because it's an interesting effect where a superstore exists for a section of the niche products (all Japanese afaik?) rather than the existing superstores catering well to those products.

Carrie goes to PCC occasionally - I need to go along again as it's been a good while. Either that or get around to visiting a butcher as the meat choice at Krogers/Fred Meyers depresses me. And looks like there's a Town & Country nearby, so something to try.

Many thanks for the ideas.

"Krogers (aka Fred Meyers in the NorthWest)"

There's your problem. Try the local QFC for a slight improvement over Fred Meyers (although their selection has deteriorated since they too were bought by Krogers). Even better if you don't mind slightly higher prices, see if a local chain like Town and Country has a store near you. There's also the local co-op. And of course Uwajimaya (across the street from US1) has an impressive selection of specialty products, skewed heavily toward imports.
