Desired JIRA feature

November 4th, 2008 by Hen

Hearing Jukka talking about git; which I’ve largely not really dug into yet as projects I use/work on haven’t moved to it. I now have a feature request for that for Mike, Ben, Jonathan et al.

Put a github inside each JIRA project. I should be able to commit my patches into a JIRA space. Obviously you guys have to allow for plugability of the other distributed SCMs, but that’s why you guys get paid and I just meddle. Effectively I want a version of the Attachment concept which is a git target.

Feel free to continue to enjoy your time until Christmas, I won’t get my hopes up ’til Easter ‘09.

Thankyou.

That is kinda what JIRA Studio (http://jira.com) is meant to be - one stop shop for software development management tools including source control and browsing, issues, wiki, and reviews. That said, it is Subversion specific and really has little in common with Github, which I also use and am a big fan of. Github is much more than Git hosting, as it uses Git as a tool to enable a whole new social software development model that, I think, better models how people actually develop and interact with open source projects.

(my thoughts, not of my employer, Atlassian)

    Cool idea!

As with all things, it should be a plugin.

You DID open a feature request at jira.atlassian.com, right? Cause without the feature request, no one hears you :)

I blog my feature requests…. so what you’re saying is that I need to create a feature-request-blog plugin?
