Talking directly to both the primary and secondary nameservers seems to give the correct replies, so I'm currently at a loss as to why it's not working. DNS caching should have long since stopped (I've updated ids and reloaded again just to make sure) and any kind of banning would be IP based and not DNS based I think. Thanks for the well-wishes :)
